Broccoli, Karaoke and Information Governance

I used broccoli and karaoke to raise awareness of the importance of good information governance (IG) to the success of the open data agenda at Open Knowledge Scotland’s Edinburgh meetup in late January 2015 at the National Library of Scotland.

My talk Information Governance: accentuating the positive, eliminating the negative, prompted a flurry of tweets. The key point I wanted to get across was that the “street cred” of IG prevents people beyond the IG community from engaging with it as it is associated with negative connotations – compliance and risk, rather than as pre-requisite to maximising information value.

I rounded off the talk with my adaptation of “Big Spender” and was delighted that some of the audience even sang along!
